Our friend, Zhang Lan, was unfortunately hit in a fatal traffic accident around 7-8pm on Saturday, 20 June. He was later sent to NUH but sadly, we lost him around 2am, 21 June.
Zhang Lan came to Singapore and studied for his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, NUS, in 2005. From 2005 to 2009, he was in the I2R wireless communications lab with us. Before the accident took place, he had just submitted his thesis and was working in I2R at Fusionpolis. However, he can no longer defend his thesis anymore.
Recalling the past is painful for everyone today. We seek your help in identifying eye-witnesses of the fatal accident. The accident took place around 7-8pm Saturday, 20 June. The site is as indicated in the picture. When the accident happened, Zhang Lan and his wife walked on the pedestrian crossing (as indicated in the picture) after the “green man” appeared. However, a taxi from AYER RAJAH Ave ran into them and both of them were knocked down. Zhang Lan was fatally injured and passed away six hours later in NUH.
