“垃圾处理中心”--负责高风险的投资。。
Can absorb all kinds of high risk which can not be taken by mutual fund, banks. Because of high risk, need very careful management and also potential very high (can be 200%-500%) return and high loss. they normally invest into, FX options, Swaptions, Exotic options....

like mutual funds..but..
hedge funds r exempt from SEC regulation(ie. lightly regulated) and can therefore pursue more speculative policies than mutual funds..
they typically r open to institutional or wealthy investors only...

Unlike traditional mutual funds, it can short. also it can use leverage to magnify gains (or losses)...

Usually hedge funds are for sophisticated investors who have a big risk appetite, but recently the rules are relaxed and retail investors can also invest in certain category of hedge funds, such as fund of funds...

今年到现在为止，很多wall street上的hedge fund lose big. 业绩甚至比2000大跌的时候还差。
