98 and XP can use msconfigif you are using windows 2000, you can either copy the msconfig file from winXP machine, or you can download some software like winOptimizer, regCleaner(recommend). or you can modify your registry. HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

there is no need to modify registryinstead, you just go to run---> type"msconfig" there is a config window popped up then you go to the tab "start up" , uncheck the item you do not want to start at the beginning there then done do not modify registry unless you are pretty sure what to do
