from the rules, could we count all top 8 as 优胜者, then how about to select the players with a round robin from the top 8 .....

We fight, we practise, we learn, we make progress, we go for self esteem. How people select the representatives is a secondary issue.

我下棋的主要目的是锻炼数学计算能力和兴趣爱好。代表国家比赛我一辈子也没这个实力。

not as strong as previous years...I'm not sure how others think, I think 5th, 6th placing are stronger then 3rd, 4th placing. Experience wise and quality of games in the competition.

Even if players in 1-4 considered not strong as 5-8, I think they still reserve the chance to represent. The rules of selection is somehow made and announced before the tournament, and we shall not change it according to the results. Of course, SGXQA also reserve the rights to modify selection criteria like organizing additional selection matches, but the key point here is that we shall never try to wipe out the top 4 just because "many" people think them no good enough.

Even if they are really not that good, who knows they surely play worse in International tournaments? Even if they do play badly in international tournaments, it's only a tournament in this year. Why not look forward to next years? And who knows how much progress they can make after gaining experience from international tournaments, and how much would it benefit Singapore in next years? After all, they are not that "no good". They have their strength before they have chances for top 4.

Therefore my view is, whether you think they are strong enough, they have their strength and opportunity, and you should at least let them have a try.

SGXQA is the one who organize such selections. Let me quote a sentence from "Lord Of The Rings", "Let the ring bearer decide."

他是我见过的新加坡棋手里面防守棋感最好的一个。不过他没有参加全国赛，再加上一些不足为外人道的原因，恐怕连选拔赛也不会参加。因此他代表新加坡参赛的机会不高，可惜了。

SIXGA EXCO was having meeting and ending, I saw one of the Top 8 players of 2008 National Open was there, if this player was consulted during the SIXGA EXCO meeting, personally I felt SIXGA EXCO did gather information before any action.

By the way, the player should bring up to SIXGA EXCO again if he has different view now, talking in 悟入棋途 on this matter will not help him in any way, please talk to SIXGA directly if he is very keen to represent Singapore in any of the two events in Oct 2008 and feel that the action is unfair to him .....
