Proposal 1 -- to introduce a new grading systemthe existing grading system of 象棋大师, 甲级棋士 and 乙级棋士 was implemented 21 years ago in 1987.
Each year, only
获公开A组冠军;或亚军/ 季军达三次者,颁予象棋大师称号。
获公开A组第二至第八名者,颁予甲级棋士称号。
获公开B组前四名者,颁予乙级棋士称号。
If we have many players without grade evenly distributed over whole Singapore (with 84 administrative divisions now, e.g. Bishan East is one of the 84 divisions), with 4 players promoted to Grade B (乙级棋士) each year, we need to wait for 21 years before one no-grade resident within the division to be promoted.
Could this be one of the reasons that not many students choose xiangqi as CCA ?
Should we have more lower grades system to encourage more players to come forward ? at least to encourage the students from young.
some interesting figures ......
For the 32 players under Bishan Internal Grading System (2008), if we exclude the 6 graded players under SIXGA system, we still have 26 players with Bishan Grading Certificates, i.e. they are considered as no-grade players under the existing grading system of 象棋大师, 甲级棋士 and 乙级棋士.
Overheard two bishan players talking about to laminate their bishan grading cerficates with plastics, to show that they value the certificates although they know the bishan certificates have no official values.
This is also one of the reasons to motivate us to review the existing bishan grading system so that we could have an improved system for the 10th Anniversary Celebration.
