Chinese Chess in Singapore?The spectacular and glory days of Xiangqi in Singapore were long gone when generous and not greedy big money sponsors disappears from the scene. Look at the ever shrinking competition prizes and the almost disappearing marketing over the years and you will know why the glory days of having 200 to 300 players in national competitions are no long seen today.
Ladies and non Chinese? Most are not interested in the game, where to find the players.
Active male chinese players are no more than 50, how many ladies and non chinese would you expect?
This forum is not what it used to be when I joined 10 years ago. Today I Log in and see posts dominated by one person which most people have lost interests in reading, discouraging most from logging in at all anymore...

Recently, heard about one major xiangqi activity with estimated expenditure of $80,000, but the idea was changed to $20,000 a year for 4 years on various xiangqi activities, as xiangqi lovers, which way you prefer ?
Personally, I prefer the second option, i.e. we do not need to worry about the funding for the next 4 years instead of having one-time $80,000 big event.
As players, you wish to see big amount for the prizes, but as organizers, we wish to see the continued funding for many years instead. As examples, I prefer to see only $600 prizes 棋友杯团体赛 for many years but not once only $5000 prizes牛车水团体赛.
I joined Singapore Open since Oct 1998, for the past 15 years, I could not see 200 to 300 players in any year. Why to look at the old good days for more than 15 years ago? May be better for us to look at the current problems in these 15 years and try to inject positive thinking in the future xiangqi generations.
As compiled recently, the information regarding only 81 graded players (including one lady player) over the last 7 years Singapore Open from 2007 to 2013, provide many areas for further study.
ONE ONLY active writer in 悟入棋途 is no good for 悟入棋途 in long term, but still better for short term to have someone to post the latest news for Singapore Xiangqi when 悟入棋途版主 is not free during recent months.
Last week, happened to meet one current 悟入棋途 writer during lunch time at Bishan, the writer has the view that International Chess in Singapore will shrink by 2020 and Xiangqi in Singapore will have even worst situation.
If Xiangqi Leaders in Singapore do not have positive thinking and try to brainstorm feasible suggestions for Singapore Xiangqi Development in the next 5, 10, 15 or even 20 years, then the view of the above 悟入棋途 writer will become a FACT soon. :(
