how to invest? need advice please.... If i have got around a few thousand US dollars and probably i will not be using it this one two years, what is the best way to invest? deposit in bank as fixed deposit to get interest or there is something else i can do. hope to hear your advice. many thanks

my 2 cents opinions:

1. buy some defensive stock to collect divident. My recommendation: SP Ausnet.
2. change the US dollar to Japanese Yen. US $ is going to depreciate against Asian currency in the next several years.
3. Fix Deposit. Nowadays the intest rate is quite attactive.

are you familiar with singapore stock market?

if you are not, do not do stock trading.
How can you buy a stock just because it is traded in US$ and you happen to have US$?

for chinese YUAN, it will appreciate eventually but likely slowly. However, not many alternatives here so you may have to just keep it.

several suggestions:

1. follow this forum
2. a weekly magazine called "Edge"
3. a bi-weekly overal stock market magazine by phillip investment

these will give you some idea of the market.
but do not encourage you enter the market without knowledge, and the timing is not very favorable, from my point of view.
