Obtaining a Singapore Driving License
The minimum age for obtaining a Class 3 driving licence or a Class 2B riding licence is 18 years.
Class 3 Driving Licence
There are two types of driving theory tests that you are required to pass, namely: the Basic Driving Theory Test and the Final Driving Theory Test. You can apply for these tests at any of the test centres mentioned in the Useful Contacts section. You are required to produce your identity card during application. The fee for a driving theory test is $6.00. Notification of results is sent two weeks after the date of the test. If you do not receive notification, you may write to the respective test centre at which the test was taken. Requests for results over the telephone are not entertained.
After you have passed the Basic Driving Theory Test, you will be granted a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL). The PDL allows you to take driving lessons on the road under the supervision of a qualified instructor. You can apply for a PDL at any of the test centres. When applying for a PDL, you should bring along your identity card and the Basic Driving Theory Test's result slip. An eye test will be conducted at the point of application. The fee payable for the issuing, or renewal, of a PDL is $25.00. The validity of a PDL is six months.
Passing the Final Driving Theory Test will allow you to proceed to the Practical Driving Test. You must pass the Practical Driving Test within two years of having passed the Final Driving Theory Test. To apply, you are required to produce your identity card, PDL and the Final Driving Theory Test's result slip. The application fee is $20.00.

There is no limit on the number of times a person can attempt to pass the Basic Theory Test. However, only one booking can be made per person at any one time through Internet or at the test centres.
Is there a limit on the number of times I can renew my Provisional Driving Licence(PDL)?
No, there is no limit on the number of times you can renew your PDL. Renewal of PDL can be done every 6 months at any Singapore Post Office, for a renewal fee of S$ 25.00.

The objective is to ensure that you can drive safely and competently.
How do I prepare the practical test?
Make sure that you receive good driving instructions and have sufficient driving lessons. You should learn on different roads as well as on the Driving Circuit and get as much experience on the road.
Is there a limit on the number of times a person can take for the Class 3 Driving Licence?
There is no limit on the number of times you sit for the Practical Driving Test. Once the driving tester is satisfied that you can drive safely and competently, you will pass the test even if it is your first attempt at the test.

Are there any conditions after obtaining the Class 3 Qualified Licence?
Upon passing the Practical Driving Test (PDT), you will be on probation for one year. You should not accumulate more than 12 demerit points during this period. If you do, Traffic Police may revoke your licence.
What is the penalty for failing to display the Probation Plate?
The penalty for failing to display the Probation Plate is S$ 120.00. There will be no demerit points awarded to the offenders. However, the driving licence will be revoked for the repeated offender.
What is the fee for a duplicate Final Theory Test (FTT) receipt & certificate?
The fee for a duplicate FTT certificate is S$10.00. There will be no charges for a duplicate receipt.
If I suffered from impaired vision, can I apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL)?
No. A person who is suffering from impaired vision is not allowed to apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL).
