this one is a typical middle office job.you will download data into spreadsheet and run those macros to generate some reports or some data required by trading desk for their decision making. Everyday you will be doing the same thing. If you wanna jump from this position to front Office, of coz possible. Anything is possible because all kinds jobs I ever see some cases that ppl directly go into trading biz . like Computing, Engineering, even arts and social science. It all depends on your own personal quality and LUCK, sorry , have to say this.
