(ÒýÓà ÆåÈËÉú:2007 System As compared to 2006 9-round system, this year, during the arbiter course, we noticed that SIXGA has considered 3 oth...)It is not surprising that 5 points will be enough for promotionIt has to be taken note that this is a major competition where the competition towards the end will be stiff, so that the occurances of drawn games increases. Everybody has become very careful as they know they cannot afford to lose. Furthermore, there is nobody with a clear advantage over the rest of the players. Even Maoran who led the group drew his last 2 games. Therefore, before the competition even started, it can actually be counted that there will be a few players with 5 points to be promoted.

In my opinion, I think that 7 rounds are still not enough. I have no complains about the 7+2 rounds system but why cant we add 2 more rounds to make it 9+2? In 2005 national competition, there are 11 rounds despite a turnout of only 44 players (inclusive of all the ranked players). In 2006, there were already many complains that there were only 9 rounds.

In a 7 round system, luck plays a much more important role that in a 9 round system. Cruelty of the system.

I still think the system needs to be reviewed and improved on.

11+2 will be better than 9+2, ..... eventually, it is still a number and not every body is happy with it.

The consideration here is whether X+2 is better than previous years method.

Some early years, they played 13 rounds ?! But now a day, if you have too many rounds, may be not many can join.

So, those officers in-charge at SIXGA will have a hard time to deicde on the number ....... as for us as players, we just participate if we can affort the time for that year.

He and ÍõÕñÖÐ led their team ÌìÌì¿ì»îÈË to Champion in Hong Kong Team Competition in 2005. The team members consist of ³ÂÖ¾ÎÄ (Hong Kong Master)£¬Ö£½£ÎÄ£¬ÖÜÊÀ½Ü and ·¶ÓÀ¿µ.

In this year team competition, they sent in 2 teams and got 2nd and 4th respectively. ·¶ÓÀ¿µ is in the team that got 4th. In both pictures, ·¶ is the one that is receiving the trophy.

In this ongoing National Chinese Chess Competition 2007 (Singapore), he has used the same opening for all 7 rounds so far (I think he is giving a handicap of about ¶þÏÈ). He has not shown his understanding for all the popular openings yet. For those who are going to play group A competition, just take note of this person, if he did indeed join the group A competition.

(ÒýÓà ÆåÈËÉú:Definitely, 9+2 will be better than 7+2 and ... 11+2 will be better than 9+2, ..... eventually, it is still a number and not eve...)the X + 2 systemWell, if people can take time out for a 7+2 competition, it is not a great difference to play 2 extra nights.

Furthermore, I think SIXGA has not account fully why they use the X+2 system.

The 7+2 system indeed brings about more excitment as the spectators will see the semi-final and finals as a more fiercely fought competition than in a swiss system. However, SIXGA is trying to prevent people from watching the games and does it not defeat the purpose of a X + 2 system? Furthermore, there are no big chess boards to broadcast the games nor are there any efforts to put the games online so that the chess fans can follow the news. If that is the case, why not make it 9 rounds like last year's competition? It is more accurate in gauging the strengths of all the players.

Another question to consider is that is the 7+2 system raising the qualities of the games? Well, I do not think there is much differences as compared to previous years. In fact, it might be worse. Those that did not make it to top 4 are not taking their last 2 games seriously and are actually just playing for fun and waiting to get the deposit back. The monetary awards for 5th - 8th are not enough to inspire the players that did not qualify to play seriously, from what was gathered on the ground.

Though the X+2 system may offer some advantages, but the main question here is that is it appropriate in the Singapore context or is it more suited for international competition where there are more publicity and more chess fans following the news with world-class players in the competition?

I would seriously think that SIXGA should ask the players and chess fans to fill up a feedback form and see what could be improved on.
