Out of 20 players, 9 will be promoted to Phase 2, another 9 will need to defend in their groupings, one will be promoted to 1st position and wait for Phase 3 if any, another one will be in last position unless there is Phase 3 (depending on Phase 2 results of other players). At the end, Top 8 of the 20 players will be considered for nominations to Mind Sport Team(s). Some other good players who are not free to join the intenral competition will be considered too.

From the ruling, we have 4 groups of 4,6,6,4 players in Phase 1 :

Group A -- 4 players (3 rounds)
Group B -- 6 players (5 rounds)
Group C -- 6 players (5 rounds)

In Phase 2 循环, Group A bottom 3 will form Group E together with Group B Top 3 but Phase 1 results will be carried forward to Group E.

Group F -- Group B bottom 3 and Group C Top 3, same rule applied as Group E.

Group G -- Group C bottom 3 and Group D Top 3, same rule applied as Group E.

1st in Group A and last in Group D will wait for Phase 3 games if any depending on the results of Phase 2.

Bishan Xiangqi Club formed on 27 Jun 2002.

We planned to organise internal competition and external competition in alternate years in addition to at least three times, the Bishan Cup for Primary Schools during 2003 to 2007.

In 2003, we started the internal competition, 12 members joined, no budget was allocated. Round robin system was used, to play on Wednesdays when club opened. Not all players could complete all 11 rounds.

In 2004, 1st Bishan Cup, Bishan East Individuals during Chinese Cultural Festival 2004.

In 2005, we tried to organise internal competition during weekends twice but failed. $700 budget allocated, 16 members joined, still using round robin system, took about 6 months to complete all rounds as some months need to be reserved for, say Singapore National Individuals Open etc. As usual, few members could not complete all 15 rounds.

In 2006, 2nd Bishan Cup, Central Singapore Individuals during Chinese Cultural Festival 2006.

Due to the celebration of Bishan Xiangqi Club 5th Anniversary in 2007, we organised the 3rd Internal Competition earlier in 2006, we noticed that round robin system could not be used if more members joined. We decided to try 分级循环两局赛曁棋艺水平单一分级制 (30 minutes), 24 members in three groups of 8 players each, 7 rounds in Phase 1, 4 rounds in Phase 2, ended with 3 more rounds of 擂台赛 in Phase 3. Total of 14 rounds, much less than 23 rounds if we used round robin system for 24 members. 5 members could not complete all rounds over about 6 months.

In this year, 2007, due to the stop of Bishan Cup for Primary Schools, we could organise one more internal competition (the next scheduled one is in 2009 with reason above), we also hope that more members could complete all rounds and decided to try weekends again with minimum of 12 players. Now with 20 members joined, all factors are good for this competition. Same method as in 2006 but 分级循环一局赛曁棋艺水平单一分级制 (60 minutes) was used, 20 members in four groups of 4,6,6 and 4 players, up to 5 rounds in Phase 1, 3 rounds in Phase 2, how about Phase 3 擂台赛 ?

Next year 2008, we are going to orgnaise 第1届碧山杯全国选区象棋团体赛 on 1 & 2 Mar 2008 during Chinese Cultural Festival 2008.

After the end of Phase 2 today, will proceed to plan Phase 3 擂台赛 if needed.

The next release of result will be only on the Top 8 after Phase 3 擂台赛 if any.

In 2006, out of 24 players, 19 completed the games, at end of Phase 2,擂台主 at Position 9th, 攻擂 at Position 10th, at the end of 3 rounds of Phase 3, 攻擂 managed to reach Position 8th.

This year 2007, out of 20 players, all 20 completed the games, at end of Phase 2, 擂台主 at Position 13th, 攻擂 at Position 14th, how many rounds of Phase 3 this time ?

The 1st round of Phase 3 is to be held on 16 Dec, 2 pm at SIXGA.

This youngest player (currently at 14th position, scored 1st position in Group D of Phase 1 and 1st position in Group G of Phase 2), representing Pasir Ris East C.C. for external xiangqi competitions, joined Bishan Xiangqi Club as member for internal activities only, will 攻擂 during the Round 9 (Round 1 of Phase 3) on 16 Dec, Sunday at 2 pm at SIXGA with the person in red (currently at 13th position) be the 擂台主.

after we used the system in 2006 (24 players in 3 groups) and 2007 (20 players in 4 groups), we will review and fine tune the system details for future years.

So far, we could notice that instead of round robin system for all players (23 or 19 rounds), our players just need to play with those players having about the same level (11 or 8 rounds), Phase 3 擂台赛 will take care of players with too high or too low grouping before the competition started.

Furthermore, a 100% participation rate for 20 players over 3 days in this year implies that weekend is still a better period for internal competition as compared to more than 10 wednesdays each in the last three internal competitions although weekday could have more players registered initially.

as indicated in the other posting, the youngest player 攻擂 from Position 14th and upward, not likely for him to move up too many levels (out of 13 levels) if any.

By the way, from the results, if 擂台主 and the youngest player (攻擂) both are placed in Group C before the start of Phase 1, then we are likely to complete all games in Phase 2 and do not need to have Phase 3. Phase 3 is to take care of too low or too high in the grouping(s) early, it is a good control.
